My Therapeutic Approach

Life can be really hard, and you don’t have to navigate it alone. I believe that having a safe, supportive space to explore your inner world is essential for growth and healing. My approach is warm, compassionate, and steady, with a strong emphasis on building safety and trust in our therapeutic relationship.

While I primarily work through a psychodynamic and trauma-informed lens, I take an eclectic, personalized approach, drawing from various modalities to meet you where you are. Therapy with me is insightful and relational, helping you uncover patterns, process emotions, and develop new ways of thinking, feeling, and relating.

Here are some key frameworks and practices that influence my work and give you an idea of what to expect in our sessions.

  • In psychodynamic therapy, we delve into the unconscious thoughts and feelings that shape your present behavior, relationships, and emotions. We also examine the influence of your past and present relationships on your current experiences. Together, we will identify patterns that may have been helpful in the past but could now be limiting you. Our goal is to cultivate a deeper understanding of yourself and work towards the growth you seek.

  • Person-centered therapy places you at the center of the therapeutic process. My goal is to provide you with a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can feel supported and empowered to explore your inner world.

  • Attachment-based therapy focuses on how your early attachment experiences may impact your current relationships. By understanding these patterns, we can work together to develop new ways of relating that promote emotional safety, trust, and security in your close relationships.

  • As a trauma-informed therapist, I am aware that you may have experienced trauma, and I approach our work with sensitivity and compassion to create a safe, supportive, and empowering space for you to explore and process your experiences.

  • Somatic therapy is a type of therapy that integrates mind and body, helping you connect with your physical sensations and emotional experiences. By bringing awareness to how your body holds emotions and past traumas, we can work together to release tension, promote relaxation, and support healing.

  • Parts work is a therapeutic approach that recognizes the multiplicity of the self and the different "parts" that make up our internal world. By understanding and integrating these parts, we can cultivate greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and healing. In sessions, we will work together to identify and engage with these parts in a safe and supportive environment, promoting greater insight and personal growth.

  • Harm reduction is a compassionate and pragmatic approach to supporting individuals who engage in behaviors, such as substance use or self-harm. It acknowledges that these behaviors are often coping mechanisms for underlying issues and seeks to minimize the harmful consequences rather than focusing solely on abstinence.

Harm reduction strategies can include creating safe spaces for individuals to discuss their struggles and without judgment. By meeting individuals where they are and empowering them to make safer choices, harm reduction promotes dignity, autonomy, and ultimately, healthier and sustainable outcomes.

“In my early professional years, I was asking the question: How can I treat, cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for [their] own personal growth?
